Selective Pallet Racking is the most widely used pallet racking system because it provides direct access to every pallet. It can be accessed by nearly every type of forklift but is most commonly used with counter-balance and reach trucks. Selective Racking is the most cost effective and most adaptable and flexible system for general usage. This type of pallet racking is easily adjusted to allow for differing pallet heights and can also be extended in height if required. 

Typically, an aisle width of 2.8 metres to 3.2 metres (pallet to pallet) is used for reach trucks. For 3-wheel counter-balance trucks, aisles are generally in the range of 3.3 metres to 3.7 metres with larger counter balance trucks needing 4.0 metre to 4.5 metre aisles (pallet to pallet).
